Reception

June 2012 at The New Ohio in NYC, March 2012 at HERE Arts in NYC, November 2011 at The University of Toronto.

A full-length storytelling and music show using just myself, a chair, and music created with my physical body and voice, to tell the story of a wedding reception in Long Island.

Directed by Rachel Chavkin. Created with dramaturgical support from JJJJJerome Ellis, Matthew Mazur, Eric Mercado, Andrew Scoville, Gina Stevenson, and Ryann Weir.

“Monaco spends most of his time sitting in a chair creating a soundscape of vocals and rhythms attached to dynamic movements. Monaco has a controlled energy that bubbles beneath the surface and at times crescendos. Skillfully directed by Rachel Chavkin and beautifully lit by Burke Brown, Reception beckons the audience into the story and takes them on a fully absorbing and thought-provoking ride. Personally, I would have loved to hear more.” — Carissa Cordes, New York Theatre Review
